Bread Box

Up-cycled  Bread Box

I am so excited to share my first publication in Mixed-Up Magazine. Squeal.

The original bread, I picked up at a thrift sale. I new I wanted to alter it in some way to go in my new kitchen . It was very plain and there was really nothing  exciting about it.

I started with a couple coats of gesso, just to prime the base of my project.

I added some subtle texture with a stencil and brushed on some gesso.

I sporadically applied through the whole box.

After it dried,  I choose my earthy colours to match my kitchen. I also used and iridescent medium to help blend the colours.

Lots of blending and I did add a little water to the palette to assist with the blending of the colours.

I added a mould to the handle for some extra details.

I raided my stash of thrift sale finds and buys and my costume jewelry to start adding all of the details.

I wanted to add some texture around the composition so I added a thick layer of graphite paste,  also to help hold the pieces in place while they dried.

I used antique spoons, and knives. Handles from my old kitchen cupboards and old jewelry, from various necklaces, earrings an bracelets.

After letting it set over night. I applied a thick layer of white gesso around each of the focal points.

I choose some colours that would match but still make the center points pop. I dry brushed a various colours from a copper colour, deep purple to black and gold.

After all of my highlighting was done it was time to blend the focal points back into the bread box base. I got out the same colours I used originally and began blending again with dry brushing with some hogs hair brushes.

Enjoy the finished project.

img_1852I love the look that I achieved with the alteration, I think it stands out. And it works perfect with all of my other actin my kitchen.

St. Patty’s Day Card

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, I just wanted to share a fun and festive St. Patrick’s Day Card for you all today. Seeing St. Patricks Day is just around the corner, its no time like now. IMG_3532

I just wanted to play around one day and try some things, I had recently seen Yasmin use foils and matte medium and wanted to give it a try for myself. There are so many different techniques that can be done with the foils.

I did alter the card after I sat and looked at it a bit, but I like the over all outcome, I am not a big fan of green, but tis the holiday.

Thank  you for stopping by today and be safe and Happy St. Patrick’s day!

Relics & Artifacts Badges

A friend at work recently was admiring my badge holder I had made with a Relics & Artifact®. She said, she wouldn’t mind one of those and asked if I could make her one. I am always up to sharing my art, so I went for it.

Badges RA

I made a variety of holders, not knowing which one she would like. I used Relics from different sets, wanting a variety for her to choose from and then I just sat and played around one day.

Badges RA

Out of all of them I made, I can’t pick a favorite, they are all unique and with the extra’s I have been switching it up a bit at work.

Badges Face RA

And there has been an peeked interest when co-workers see them, they ask “where did you get that?” And I have had some personal requests. I think after wearing the same Navy Blue scrubs for as long as some of us have, adding a little variety in the work attire is welcoming and how fun it is to get to wear the Relics & Artifacts® to work.

Badges Rust RA

I enjoyed making these and using all different relics.

Badges Crosse RA

Badges Angels RA

Enjoy the day. Thank you for stopping.

Hat’s off to St. Patricks Day

As St. Patrick’s Day fast approaches, I wanted to make something fun and festive that really was bright, and showed the true spirit of St. Patrick’s Day.

The kids at school have a holiday celebration and get to dress up, I decided I would add a headband to the hat so Olivia could were it to school.

I started out coveing the whole hat with a some pretty Italian crepe paper, and layering it wiht tool and trim. I wanted to make it fun so I added some peacock feathers and a beautiful florish from Creative Embellsishemtns.

I tucked gears and the velvet Pansies, along with some diamond mesh to add some more bling to the assamblage.

I added a big colourful brooch  amoungst the Dahlia’s.

I added a buckel and Mini Butterfly to the other side and added a special touch of some hat pins to top it off.

The shamerock was just as fun, crepe paper and lots of layering with the gears, velvets, and dahlias.

So Happy St. Patricks Day for all my Irish friends and to all that help celebrate the great hearitage. Enjoy and Be safe.

Mirror Mirror

Mirror Mirror On the Wall

Having young children at home and the fact that they STILL think momma is fun and “the best momma in the world” My art is highly influenced by them.  It tends to refelct on what we are actually doing around the house or in the gardens or what we are watching on TV. And seeing my daughter Olivia and I share an art room together she gives me her honest, heart warming opinion on EVERYTHING.

And I mean when she doens’t like something she will usually give you a better way of doing it in her eyes. So when it came to the Mirror Mirror on the Wall Piece, we were talking about how we wanted it to look and we had the movie up on the screen. And Olivia is pointing out details in the walls and torches and things evolved from there. Until it was time to make the tourches.

So Apoxie Sculpt in hand. (she gets to mix it up for me and then play with the left overs beaucase I can never measure just enough) I struggled, and then struggled some more, and then had to make supper, and she asked if she could help. Why not, lets see what the girl’s got.

I was happy to see I wasn’t the only one that stuggled, but with much delight the tourches were done, and not by me. So as proud as Olivia was, I said “well we better put them where they belong.”

So to pay credit where credit is due, Olivia the little scutlper that she is, did in fact, make the beautiful tourches. And with some expert Olivia guidance of colour choices, this “best momma of the world” finished the paint details that made the whole project.

A Collaberation of the minds, our rendition of “Mirror Mirror on the Wall” was completed, and Olivia is one proud artist.

Creative Embellishments March Challenge

If your looking for the Spiegelmom Blog Hop Click Here.

March Challenge.

Where is the time going, we have another monthly challenge over at CE. This month has a beautiful inspirational board. The twist is to add something that flies. So We hope you play along and get creative.

Here is my take on the challenge.

I have these fun envelopes and wanted to alter them in a bit of mixed media style.

I love dragonflies and used the Circles Panel and Flourish Dragonflies and added some Lindy’s spray to them. After it had dried I used some Crackle Glaze on the wings and set them aside to dry.

I used the Studio 75 Lavender Morning Collection and did some stenciling with the scribble heart stencil and stamped with the distressed corner stamp and distressed circle.

I cut up a metal butterfly to add more dimension to the tag.

After I got the tag done, I wanted to soften it up. Purples and pinks are not my two favorite colours so I added some white gesso with some dry brushing.

I topped it off with the heart Flair from the Valentine Collection. It turned out to be a cute envelope and tag set.

Creative Embellishments: Flourished Dragonflies, Circles Panel, Feb 14th Flair, Scribbles Heart Stencils, Distressed Circle Stamp, Distressed Corner Stamp,

DecoArt: White GEsso, Modeling Paste.

Studio 75 Lavender Morning 03, 04.

Distress Crackle Paint Clear.

Petaloo By FloraCraft: Jeweled Florette All White, Darjeeling Dahlias Purple, Dahlias Pink.

Lindy’s STamp Gang: Starburst Prima Donna Purple, Starburst Bachelor Button Blue.

And now on to my project.

I have so many fun pictures of the kids I need to scrap. And it just so happens that this picture printed out way to dark the first time and with a little lighting adjustment I printed out a better one. I absoloutly cringe when I have to throw something away so I figured I would find a creative way to use it.

I started out with the beautiful papers from 7 Dots and used the Shimmers Paste through a stencil and then stamped over the texture.

I used the Grunge Star Corner and the Doodle Stars to help frame the pictures and make it look like a falling star. And what else do you do with a falling star you make a wish.

I sprayed the chippie and then again stamped right over it. I added some Felt Clouds and cork stars from SMS to add to the starry night sky.

And for some finishing touches I added SMS Crushin’ On Pruple Sequins to add a bit of bling to a already fun layout.

Khristina’s Blog is up next. so keep on hopping and head over there.

Thanks for hopping along with CE and SMS
