Altered Frame Live FB

I want to invite you all to join me on the Swirlydoos Facebook page for a live Facebook show on Tuesday October 17th at 8 CST. We will be doing a fun DYI altered frame with techniques and product from the Project Kit.

The project will be similar but I always tend to mix it up some! Here are a few close-ups of the template.

I hope to see you there.

Fall Flowers~Simple and Clean

A Simple Layout today, with minimal details, sometimes less is really more. As the seasons change so do the blossoms in the gardens. My late bloomers are always a welcoming sign that autumn is now here. (my second favorite season).

If anyone knows me I love to add a good number of products to a layout, tons of texture, stamping and boat loads of layering.  This one is different, I did very subtle background work on this piece, minimal stamping and texture. I concentrated more on the painting on the chipboard. I used oranges pinks and purples to full from the vibrant colour of the echinacea (Cone Flower), pulling the deep oranges from the inspirational mood board at Mixed Media Place.

Enjoy a few close-ups.

I wanted to add a little flair to the page using the March Flair Set, after all of my clusters were done I added some more stamping with the Distress Hexagon Stamp just around the focal point.

Thank you for stopping by today, enjoy the simple beauty that is all around up.

“Fly Free” Mixed Media Layout

Hiya, Heather here today. Today I am sharing a video tutorial featuring the Homegrown Collection. Here at the house we can always find some amazing creatures of nature, between the flowers, birds, ducks, frogs and bugs, there is always something unique and picture worthy.  One morning I had a set of dragonflies land on one of my hanging petunia’s. The shape they had formed was beautiful, an upside down heart, truly perfect nature right there.

So the video is my creative process as it transforms from a piece of paper and a few pictures to to texture and details you can feel and enjoy.
Here are some closeups of the details and textures that helped transform this piece.

Thank you for stopping by today and Enjoy the day!

Gift Bag and Tag~7 Dots Studio

Gift Bag and Layered Tag.

Hi all, I want to share a fun gift bag and layered tag I made with the Cotton Candy Dreams Collection.  And with Halloween coming up at the end of the month I felt it was very fitting to make a goodie bag.  And seeing most countries celebrate All Hallows Eve,  the night before, All Saints Day,  in some fashion or another. Even if traditions may vary from country to county, and as popular as Halloween is, it is a perfect time to get together with friends, however the event is celebrated.

So what a perfect collection to make a goodie bag to share some treats or give a gift. Or even play a trick if that fancy’s you.

Here is the video

Enjoy the close-ups and I hope you have a great Halloween.

Black and White Creative Embellishments

Another month and a new fun challenge at Creative Embellishments. The fun twist this month is to use Black and White. And the inspirational photo is perfect inspiration to get those creative juices flowing.

This is my take on the challenge, a card and tag set.

I love the challenge and surprisingly I thought it was going to be easier than it was. I so wanted to throw in a pop of colour, but I held off and made a fun card and tag set.  I started with the background. Making details on the background with the Crackle Brick Stencil and ink, I later highlighted with a aquarellable pencil. I used the Spiders, Creepy Trees and the Birds in the clusters. I used simple sprays to give them the black colour.

I made a short video of the creative process here.

Here are some close-ups.

I hope you all join the challenge. I cant wait to see the entires.

My Swirlydoos Reveal “SUNSHINE”

Today is my day to reveal Swirlydoos Sunshine Kit. I have three projects to show you today so lets not delay any further.

To start it out I have a fun layout I used the main kit and a simple one picture layout with lots of layering and texture. Explore Swirlydoos

This picture we took on top of a mountain over looking Kyrksæterøra.  The walk itself is interesting  because its like your walking on a marsh or bog, very mossy and wet, squishy beneath your feet.

I made a video of the creative process for your viewing. I hope you enjoy!

A few more close-ups.

I also have the project kit, that came with the crackle medium. Which I totally love the look of it, but I am so impatient. Live for Today Swirlydoos

I totally loved the look of how this came out. I added some beading to the piece to make it more elegant.

And using the texture pastes again I added to the title to give more dimension .

And here is my take on the sketch challenge. Its a great sketch, but I went a bit different and used square verse the circle.

I wanted to share some more pictures from our recent trip over seas, this sketch let me do three, I love multiple pictures on a page. I can tell more a of story that way.

Discover Mixed Media Layout

These pictures are in Norway, down by the ocean, up in the mountains. Waterfalls everywhere, the more it rained the more waterfalls could be seen.

Here is a little video of the creative process.

Enjoy the close ups.

So I hope you join in on the challenges and share you work with us, dint forget to upload in to the FB Swirlydoos Gallery.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Historical Feature – Anne Frank

Historical Person New Challenge at 7 Dots Studio

7 Dots historical person heather

As the new challenge is about historical persons of interest, I had so many historical figures pass my mind. Thinking about so many influencial people that helped shape the world as it is today. I had a finally choose Anne Frank. She was such an old wise soul in such a young person, and with all that was going on in the world during her short time here, so many positive and encouraging words of wisdom came from her and her writing. She was brave and she has a legacy that will live on for generations to come.

Thank you for stopping by today, I hope you try your take at the challenge this month.

Embroidery Hoop

I saw the challenge at AALL & Create and thought I wanted to join in but wanted to do something different than the normal ocean/nautical theme. I decided to go with some pictures from Norway. When you live on a fjord, you live next to the ocean. There are seashells, Seaweed and all good things you find near the water.

This was a picture that Olivia and I took out on a boat heading to an island in the Trondheimsfjorden, just off of the Norwegian Sea. It was cold, rainy and gloomy but did we make the best of it. I used shells that we found in the fjord and the big shell is one of the shells from the ice age we found on the mountain. They are very fragile.

I made a little video of the creative process.

Here are some close-ups, enjoy!

Thank you for stopping today, enjoy your day to the fullest.
