CCB/RA collaboration Coat of Arms

Welcome to my portion of the collaboration with Canvas Corp Brands. Today I am going to share a little book cover that I received from CCB. I used the shield from the Mythos collection from RA, I wanted to resembling an old coat of arms. With our recent trip over seas and to see so much history, this little book cover is going to make a cute little album for one of our many excursions we had. I made a little video for you all with the creative process and products in this collaboration with CCB.

Enjoy the video.

So a little about “Coat of Arms” I am not an expert by any means, but I can condense the general concept of them. Coat of Arms were  traditional made to represent an individual or a family, primarily the shield is the focal point, but the entire coat of arms tells a story of who bears the coat and what heraldic achievements have they had. Each element of the Coat of Arms has significant meaning to the individual. As our one tour guild stated “The more powerful you are the bigger the coat”
I was very surprised to learn some of the history behind them and just as surprised to find out there is actually a governing body to help determine who is granted a coat of arms based on their achievements, family pedigrees and genealogy.
So my project is a small resemblance of some of the history we got to experience while on our many adventures in England. And when I thumb through the 3200 pictures, and find just the right ones, I will bind the covers into a mini album. And Don’t  forget to stop by the CCB blog for other great projects all month long.

Beautiful Shabby Chic Layout

Hello All,  I am sharing a a fun shabby layered layout, The picture is from our recent trip overseas. Olivia in front of a fountain that looked like a dandelion. Her placement was perfect. Almost like a halo effect.

I have a tendency to start a project with just the basics, paper, picture and colour, and then it transforms from there. Never really having a plan, Just knowing I like this particular picture and this paper would go great with it.

I made a video of my crazy way of creating.

After the detailed background work of sprays, stamps ( Distress Chevron, Distress Screen, and Distress Crackle) and texture, I move onto the layering portion.

I used the Love Knot Panel and sprayed it with spray and then decided to cut it apart. I tend to do that so the product goes farther. I also used the same colour combo on both the beautiful Small word sentiment and the Flourish Page Corner

My layouts tend to have some dimension, which I don’t mind I have some shadow boxes I put them in to showcase them. Then I can switch them out when I feel like it.

More close-ups

Thank you for stopping by today!

Enjoy  the beautiful days.

Stars & Stripes

Hello, another layout today for the new challenge at Creative Embellishments. And another fun mixed media layout to share with you.

This was such a fun layout to do, lots of texture and the pictures of course out of the 200 plus  taken, I did manage to get a couple good ones.

Here is the video along with some close-ups.

Starting out with background stamping with the halftone trio stamp and the distress crackle stamp, I added to the background work with  the Independence Stencil.

I did simple heat embossing with the title from the Independence word set along with the Grunge Corner Stars.

I hope you join us this month at Creative Embellishments, Its a great inspirational picture and don’t forget the twist, use stars and stripes. You don’t have to use CE products to join.

Spring Grunge ATC’s

Spring Grunge ATC’s
Hi all. I want to share a set of ATC’s made with Swirlydoos May Kit “Spring Grunge”. This kit has so much fun stuff in it. So many possibilities with it.

ATC Swrilydoos.gif

Along with a short video tutorial on my creative process, I have some close ups of the Cards. These ATC’s can be so addicting to make.

The fun part is you can make as many as you want and they all can be different.

And by just adding some small element from my stash I have these fun ATC’s with some mixed media techniques.

I added paste from the Project kit and added it to the stencil. I used plain gesso, and dabbed through another stencil to get the pops of white.

Using the Inkgold from the mediums kit, I highlighted the metal portions of the cards to make them shine more.

I hope you enjoyed and if you haven’t played around making some ATC’s I highly recommend it. I have slowly expand my collection of ATC’s from fellow artists around the world.

Creative Embellishments Dad tags

June is always such a busy time of year, with birthdays, holidays and Father’s Day. Today I am sharing a tag and card set made just for him. Each one of the kids will have their own card/tag to give to their daddy.

While at a weekend away at Maggi’s, I got to play with her scrappy stash. I even attempted to make my own flowers. So when It came to a masculine looking card, the combo of paper, embellishments  and flair was just perfect.

Using the Flourish 12 with some distress ink and embossing powder I matched it to the paper UHK Gallery. I also made the flowers out of the left over papers using some dies.

I liked the masculine look and adding the touch of #1 Dad Flair give the extra touch and I heat embossed the titles on both the card and tag.

Other Supplies:

Altered Tin – A Dad’s Gift

With a heavy heart, I have to say this is my last post for Petaloo, I want to put a big thank you out there to Jeff and Cheryl for giving me this opportunity and trusting in me to showcase their product, Their kindness and caring is over the top. Thank you so much for your friendships. Not a good bye but a see you later.

I want to thank the followers, consumers  and supports of Petaloo and the rest of the Design Team, for your support,  compassion and kind words.

So I will share a fun altered tin and card made especially for dad! You cant go wrong with rust, gears and steampunk. The tin is to hold all of Daddy’s sweet treats.

Enjoy the video and creative process.

Here are some close ups for your enjoyment

Because Brown is not a favorable colour for flowers, sometimes you just have to make them yourself. I used the Dajeerling Teastained   for the larger flowers and sprayed them golden yellow, with the Mini Mix I simply ink distressed them for the grunge look.

For the tin I used a rust technique to grunge it up and added the flowers and metal embellishments.

So the kids and I will fill this with daddy’s favorite sweet treats and leave the extras close so he can finish those off as well. (A sweet tooth in denial)

Thank you for stopping by today!

Altered Tag made with “Spring Grunge”

Today I am sharing an altered tag I made based of the sketch challenge at Swirlydoos Kit Club. The altered tag kit has these tags from Tim Holtz and they are big. I choose to make this one a wall hanging with some pictures of the kids on there.

Altered TAg

The tag is based loosely off the sketch challenge.

Here is a video tutorial of the creative process:

I added lost of background details with many of the supplies that came in the various kits that are available.

I love the texture that comes from the Ferro and to highlight with the various waxes and mediums that are available just make any piece stand out.

This kit has so much to work with I cant wait to see what your take on the challenge is.

Wind Chime

As many of you know I not only create art inside, but I also create art outside. I have been gardening for as long as I have been working. I use art both inside and out as a release from the stress of work. So whither its in the gardens or in the studio. It relaxes me, it frees me.

So for me to be able to make something I can enjoy for my gardens is a bonus. To sit in one of the many places in my gardens and enjoy the true art of nature. And to see a beautiful piece of art that shimmers and shines in the patches of sunlight breaking through the leaves.

Nature and Art, they go their separate ways,

It seems; yet all at once they find each other.

Even I no longer am a foe to either;

Both equally attract me nowadays.

Some honest toil’s required; then, phase by phase,

When diligence and wit have worked together

To tie us fast to Art with their good tether,

Nature again may set our hearts ablaze.

All culture is like this; the unfettered mind,

The boundless spirit’s mere imagination,

For pure perfection’s heights will strive in vain.

To achieve great things, we must be self-confined:

Mastery is revealed in limitation

And law alone can set us free again.

-Selected Poetry of Johann Wolfgang van Goethe,  ‘Natur und Kunst’ (2005: 124-125)

I wanted to make something functional but yet stunning, a piece special for my gardens.

Enjoy the process of this piece.

But with all artists there is the idea, implementation of the idea, following through, altering the idea, and then through many other steps, set back, a-ha moments there is the completion of the idea. And then to capture the completed idea so others can envision in their own eyes the true beauty and elegance of a piece.

And with any creative process, getting the picture to capture its true essence is sometime just as long, complicated, and tedious as the project itself. And what we wont do to try and get the perfect picture.
